Sara Dunn,  a new teacher at FHS, has had quite an interesting journey throughout her career. She has jumped through many hoops to get to where she is today in room 507, teaching algebra 1 and 2.

Dunn grew up in Bloomfield Hills and started her career with one path in mind: becoming a pharmacist. She originally went to Ferris State for her undergraduate degree in pre-pharmacy, citing her love of chemistry as a reason to pursue it. However, she learned that the career wasn’t what she had anticipated, and switched to math education with a minor in Spanish. 

 “I quickly realized that I didn’t actually like the science part of chemistry,” Dunn said. “I liked the math part of chemistry.” 

After completing her undergraduate degree, she attended Oakland University, where she received a Master’s in Educational Leadership. When she graduated, her next move was to find an open teaching job, which she found at Cypress Creek High School in Houston, Texas, where she worked for three years. But soon, she got homesick and decided to move back to Michigan. From there, she secured a job at Shrine Catholic High School in Royal Oak, where she worked for eight years before branching out.

“A few of the younger teachers who are in different departments have welcomed me in, and it’s been very comfortable,” Dunn said.

Dunn says that everyone has been “super welcoming” to her as she eases into her new job.
